Squatters in Thapathali scramble to relocate as authorities move to clear illegal settlements

Kathmandu. Residents of unauthorized squatter settlements on public and government land along the banks of the Bagmati River in Thapathali appear desperate following the deployment of police to clear the area.

After learning that bulldozers would be deployed in the morning, residents have been rushing to move their remaining belongings. The administration had issued a notice on Friday, urging them to vacate the huts and relocate their personal belongings, clothing, and livestock to a safe place.
