Karnali Province Faces Significant Staff Shortage with One-Fourth of Positions Vacant

Surkhet. One-fourth of the staff positions in the 79 local levels of Karnali Province, considered geographically remote, are vacant. The Chief Minister and Council of Ministers Office, Karnali Province, Surkhet, has stated that one-fourth of the sanctioned positions in these 79 local levels are without staff, according to the federal government's approved staffing. Secretary of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers Office, Laxmikumar BK, informed that out of a total of 5,660 sanctioned positions, 1,363 positions are vacant. According to him, 4,297 employees are currently working against the total positions. As per the details sent by the respective municipalities, out of 183 sanctioned positions in the Education Service from fifth to ninth/tenth levels, 132 positions have been filled, leaving 51 positions vacant. Secretary BK stated that in the Engineering Service, out of 1,055 sanctioned positions, 634 have been filled, with 421 positions vacant, and in this service, there are zero positions filled at the ninth/tenth level. According to him, in the Administration Service, out of 1,541 sanctioned positions, 1,064 have been filled, leaving 477 vacant. In the Health Service, out of 1,884 sanctioned positions, 1,732 have been filled, with 152 positions vacant. In the Agriculture Service, out of 814 sanctioned positions, 577 have been filled, leaving 237 vacant. Secretary BK of the office informed that in the Miscellaneous Service, out of 183 sanctioned positions, 158 have been filled, with 25 vacant. Among the 79 local levels in the province, in Dolpo Buddha Rural Municipality of Dolpa, only 15 individuals are working out of 53 positions. In Birendranagar Municipality, Surkhet, 116 individuals are working against 105 sanctioned positions. Office Secretary BK stated that this municipality has 11 excess employees. Secretary BK suggested that the reason for the lack of employees according to the staffing in Dolpo Buddha might be due to contract work, and the Chief Minister's Office will now collect details of vacant positions in all local levels, send them to the Province Public Service Commission, and fill the vacant posts.
