EU Considers Age Limits for Social Media to Protect Children from Online Risks

Kathmandu. Child rights and digital privacy advocates have criticized the European Union (EU) for preparing to set age limits for social media use to protect children from online risks. EU chief Ursula von der Leyen is preparing to present a plan to limit the social media use of minors in the European Parliament next week.

The EU is considering options to ban social media use for children under 13 or restrict those under 15. France has proposed an age limit of 15 years, while an expert group has recommended a ban for children under 13. Following Australia's ban on social media use for teenagers last December, countries including Britain are also preparing similar arrangements.
