Birgunj Customs Office Reports 70% Increase in Daily Imports After Bhote Koshi Flood

Parsa. The Birgunj Customs Office has stated that daily imports have increased by 70 percent through the Birgunj border after the Bhote Koshi flood. Chief Customs Administrator Krishna Prasad Mainali of Birgunj Customs Office said that due to the disruption of the Rasuwa and Tatopani customs border following the devastating flood, some goods imported from China have started entering through the Birgunj border by changing the blocked route, leading to an increase in imports.

“It is natural for imports to increase with goods like clothing, shoes, decorative items, dry fruits, and chocolates being brought in as major festivals like Dashain, Tihar, and Chhath approach,” he said, “Imports naturally increase in Dashain compared to other months, but this time there is pressure on Birgunj as the two major northern borders are blocked.”
