UK Nepalis Shift Teej Focus to Flood Relief

London. Red sarees, green necklaces, Teej songs and rhythmic dances that fill the air every year in the Nepali community in Britain, this year the Teej atmosphere was completely different. Due to the human suffering caused by the devastating floods that hit Nepal on August 10, the attention of Nepalis here was more focused on raising funds for the flood victims than on the festivities of the festival.

In previous years, as Teej approached, there was a hustle and bustle of programs for weeks in various cities of Britain. There was a wave of inviting artists from Nepal, eating 'dar', singing songs and dancing in community halls and restaurants. This year too, many programs were scheduled in advance and some artists had arrived in Britain from Nepal. But after the flood in the Bhote Koshi caused great loss of life and property in Nepal, the atmosphere here changed suddenly.
