Flood Devastates Northern Border Corridor, Causing Over NPR 150 Billion in Losses

Kathmandu. The flood in the corridor connecting the northern border crossing Rasuwagadhi has devastated local businesses, international transportation, and the agricultural sector. The preliminary report published by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority shows this. According to the report, the flood in the Bhote Koshi on August 26 caused direct damage of NPR 34.28 billion 53 million in productive areas and economic losses of NPR 116.08 billion 89 million due to business shutdowns, resulting in a total blow of NPR 150.36 billion 42 million. The report states that approximately 4,800 business establishments in the flood corridor were affected. Hotels and restaurants, numbering 1,259, and wholesale and retail businesses, numbering 1,212, were most affected. Significant physical damage to transportation vehicles and hotel infrastructure, along with business disruptions, has led to the loss of billions of rupees in transactions. The report indicates that NPR 45.45 billion is required for the revival of this sector.
