Kathmandu, Feb 19: Democracy Day is celebrated as the National Day every year on the 7th of the Nepali month Fagun. It commemorates the day on which the nearly 104-year-old autocratic Rana oligarchy was overthrown and democracy established through a people’s revolution. It was the day when the Nepali people secured their civic rights and freedom of speech, expression and right to organize and live a free life. This was also the day when the process of ensuring the rule of law was initiated.
