National Assembly Chairman Dahal Highlights Legal Obstacles in Pastureland Development

Kathmandu. National Assembly Chairman Narayan Prasad Dahal has stated that various legal obstacles are appearing in the development of pastures and grazing lands where there is potential to create employment opportunities in Nepal.

Speaking at a multi-stakeholder discussion program on transforming experiences gained from the restoration program of pastures and grazing lands of Nepal and Bhutan into Nepal's pasture policy, he said that pasture-related laws need to be reviewed extensively. He mentioned that in some cases, provisions in laws such as the Forest Act, National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act, and land-related laws appear to displace each other's areas rather than supporting each other. He stated that a serious discussion is needed, encompassing all relevant laws, on the use and management of public land, pastures, and grazing areas.
