MP Parwati BK Raises Concerns Over Discrimination and Untouchability in Room Search

Kathmandu. Nepal Communist Party (NCP) MP Parwati BK has objected to the discrimination and incidents of caste-based untouchability happening in the name of searching for rooms. Speaking during an emergency session of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, MP BK described the incident of untouchability that occurred under the pretext of searching for a room as 'extremely painful' and drew the government's attention. She demanded that the private company named 'Mama-Bhanja', which promotes caste-based untouchability and discrimination, and those involved in discriminating in the name of searching for rooms be immediately brought under the legal framework. She questioned why institutions that promote untouchability and discrimination are not being punished and why the government remains silent. MP BK stated that the Satyagraha started by Deepa Nepali at Maitighar Mandala with the slogan 'Government, where is the room?' has reached 150 days, yet the government has ignored it. She mentioned that even after 150 days, the government and the law are still asleep, calling it a mockery of the system and the constitution. She demanded legal action against institutions and individuals promoting caste-based discrimination and untouchability, and effective implementation of the Caste Untouchability (Offence and Punishment) Act-2068. She urged that justice be provided to the victims, even if it requires amending the act. MP BK demanded that the government's tendency to arrest citizens simply for speaking out is wrong and that the citizens' right to complain to the government be respected.
