SAARC and BIMSTEC Silent on Nepal's Flood Disaster

Kathmandu. Three years ago, SAARC Secretary-General Mohammed Golam Sarwar, who was appointed Secretary-General of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), told President Ram Chandra Paudel that along with the main objectives of SAARC, new challenges have been added to save the Himalayas and conserve water sources due to the effects of climate change currently seen in the Hindu Kush Himalayan region. He pointed out the need for SAARC to be active in facing this challenge.

Secretary-General Sarwar's term is coming to an end. However, SAARC does not seem to have done much in the field of climate change pointed out by President Paudel. Currently, a major disaster has occurred in Nepal due to climate change. Due to the flood in Bhote Koshi on Bhadra 10, there has been a huge loss of life and property, and the world's attention is focused on Nepal. However, SAARC has not expressed any reaction or solidarity regarding the disaster in Nepal.
