Cricket Players Fined for Code of Conduct Violations in ACC Premier Cup Final

KATHMANDU. Former captain Rohit Paudel, along with UAE's Adeeb Usmani and Khuzaima Tanvir, and Nepal's players have been penalized for violating the International Cricket Council (ICC) code of conduct during the final match of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Men's Premier Cup in Kuala Lumpur. The three players have been fined for breaching Level 1 of the code of conduct. A verbal altercation occurred between Rohit Paudel and Adeeb Usmani in the 31st over of the Nepali innings. They were found guilty under Article 2.4 of the ICC Code of Conduct for failing to obey the instructions of the on-field umpire while trying to control the situation. This article relates to not obeying the umpire's instructions during international matches. Due to the incident, both players have been fined 15 percent of their match fees. Another UAE player, Khuzaima Tanvir, has been fined 10 percent of his match fee in a separate incident. After being dismissed in the 46th over of the UAE's innings, he hit the wicket with his bat. He was penalized under Article 2.2 of the code of conduct for damaging match equipment or ground structures. In addition to the fines, all three players have received 1 demerit point each on their disciplinary records. None of them had repeated such an offense in the past 24 months. The players have admitted their guilt and accepted the penalties proposed by the ICC match referee, Ali Naqvi of the Emirates International Panel. Therefore, a formal hearing was not required. On-field umpires Kalidas Viswanathan and Tarak Deb, and reserve umpire Vinod Babu presented the claims for their penalties. A Level 1 breach of the code of conduct officially includes a warning, a fine of up to 50 percent of the match fee, and 1 to 2 demerit points. If the demerit points reach 4 or more within a 24-month period, they are converted into suspension points, and the player is banned. A ban of 1 Test, 2 ODIs, or 2 T20 Internationals is imposed for every 2 suspension points, according to the provision.
