Hundreds Missing After Devastating Flood in Bhote Koshi, Rescue Efforts Underway

Kathmandu. Seventeen days after the devastating flood in Bhote Koshi, the condition of hundreds of people who have been out of contact in the hydropower projects of Rasuwa and Nuwakot is still unknown. Some of them are suspected to be trapped in tunnels and underground powerhouses.

A joint team of the Nepali Army, police, project employees, and domestic-foreign technicians is continuing search and rescue amidst risky conditions. The rescue is further complicated by washed-out roads and bridges, difficulty in transporting necessary equipment to the site, and the unknown conditions of water, mud, and rocks inside the tunnels.
