Koshi Province Invests Billions in Tourism Infrastructure with Limited Results

Biratnagar. The Koshi Province government has invested approximately 10 billion rupees in tourism infrastructure development in the last nine years. During this period, 1,770 tourism infrastructure projects, both small and large, have been constructed. Despite such a large investment, the expected impact on tourist arrivals, the tourism business, and the province's economy has not been realized.

The Provincial Ministry of Tourism's review of expenditures from fiscal years 2074/075 to 2080/081 mentions the number of infrastructure constructions but has not clearly evaluated the returns from these projects. Although approximately 10 billion rupees have been spent in nine years, the government does not have records of how many tourists were added, how long their stays were, or how much they contributed to the local economy.
