Nepali Congress on the Brink of Split as Factions Announce Separate Conventions

Kathmandu. The Nepali Congress has finally reached the brink of division. The rift has widened further after party president Gagan Thapa and former president Sher Bahadur Deuba issued separate appeals on Tuesday, urging participation in conventions to be held on different dates.

The dispute has been escalating since the special convention held from Push 27 to 30, led by then general secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma, elected a new working committee under Thapa's leadership. That dispute is currently sub-judice in the Supreme Court.
