Saudi Arabia Claims Houthi Attack on Mecca Thwarted, Calls it a 'Red Line'

KATHMANDU. Saudi Arabia has called an alleged attempt by Iran-backed Houthi rebels of Yemen to attack Islam's holiest city Mecca a 'red line' that cannot be crossed, while the Houthis have denied launching a drone attack towards Mecca.

According to the Saudi-led military coalition, the drone was intercepted and destroyed before it could enter Mecca's airspace. Coalition spokesperson Colonel Turki al-Malki stated this was the second such attack attempt after the Houthis launched a ballistic missile towards Mecca in 2017.
