Road Upgradation Intensifies in Kaligandaki Corridor's Myagdi Section

Myagdi. Road upgradation in the landslide-affected areas of the Myagdi section of the Kaligandaki Corridor, connecting China and India, has been intensified. The Beni-Jomsom-Korala Road Project Office is completing the remaining upgradation work in the landslide-affected areas from Galeshwor to Setokhola in Mustang, which were previously removed from the contract. Project Chief Tejashwi Sharma informed that landslide control, riverbank protection, and concrete paving are being carried out through contracts in different packages. "Despite the monsoon and the heavy traffic of vehicles plying to and from the Korala border, the road upgradation work has continued," he said. "Work is currently underway in the landslide-affected areas that were previously removed from the contract. We are also preparing to award contracts for the remaining landslide-affected areas." According to Project Information Officer Engineer Babusahevkumar Batha, Shankarshree-Creative JV has secured a contract worth Rs 73 million for 1.2 kilometers of road paving and the construction of 2,300 cubic meters of gabion, plum, and concrete walls in the Rahughat, Ghumnetal, Chamere, and Baisari areas. The company, which signed the contract in April, has continued construction even during the monsoon. Kali Mata-Thapakaji-Rasuwa JV, with a contract worth Rs 80 million, is carrying out retaining wall, culvert construction, and paving work in the Kunauta, Begkhola, Bhirkate, and Ratoopani sections. However, the work of expanding the road by blasting rocks in the Bhirkate area has been halted due to the monsoon and heavy vehicle traffic. Engineer Batha informed that 1,890 cubic meters of gabion mesh, plum, and concrete walls will be constructed to protect the road, and approximately two kilometers (4,371 cubic meters) of road will be paved. Technical study is underway for landslide control and road upgradation in risky areas like Siruwari and Tatopani, which have affected vehicle movement. The road upgradation work in the Baisari, Khambitta, Ghuite, Latahola, Rupse, and Setokhola areas, which were contracted with various construction companies for Rs 250 million, is also nearing completion. Project Chief Sharma stated that priority has been given to road upgradation and landslide control due to the problem of direct traffic obstruction caused by floods and landslides in the Kaligandaki Corridor's Myagdi section during the monsoon because of its weak geological structure.
