Nepal’s wetlands are under pressure. Migrator birds are losing safe havens

Falling bird numbers and species diversity across major wetlands point to the growing risks for a migration corridor that links Nepal to breeding and wintering grounds across Asia.

Birds know no national borders. Travelling thousands of kilometres, they move across continents in search of breeding grounds, food, and warmth. If a single wetland along their arduous route dries up, becomes polluted, or falls victim to human encroachment, the consequences ripple far beyond that immediate site, impacting avian populations across another continent entirely.
