Flash Flood Risks Across River Corridors

A recent report in Gorkhapatra highlighted concerns raised by the Baglung District Disaster Management Committee over the growing danger of glacier-induced floods along the Kaligandaki Corridor. According to the report, such floods could cause even greater downstream devastation in the Gandaki basin than the recent Bhotekoshi disaster, which severely damaged settlements, infrastructure, and physical assets along the Trishuli corridor. The Kaligandaki basin has repeatedly experienced floods that threaten riverside settlements. Recognising these risks, the district disaster management body has decided to request expert agencies to conduct geomorphic studies of vulnerable settlements and fragile locations along the corridor.
