Nepal Faces Escalating Climate Change Risks Amidst Devastating Floods and Landslides

Kathmandu. A climate conference was held on Tuesday at the District Sports Development Committee ground and covered hall in Jomsom, the headquarters of Mustang. Amidst the hall, local representatives were discussing the Bhote Koshi flood, observing the Kaligandaki flowing nearby. In an informal discussion, one local government head said, 'We are currently on the banks of the river. If a flood like the one in Rasuwa occurs, we won't survive either.'

Jomsom is on the banks of the Kaligandaki river. Kagbeni, the confluence of the Kag Khola originating from Tibet and the river that starts in the Muktinath region, was devastated by a flood a few years ago. These are the thoughts heard after reaching the banks of the Kaligandaki following the flood in Rasuwa's Bhote Koshi, as if to forget that. This is the talk of representatives from other districts; the concerns and worries of local representatives are no less.
