Communist Party Chief Whip Yubaraj Dulal Draws Government's Attention to Melamchi Project Affected Parties

Kathmandu. Chief Whip of the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) Yubaraj Dulal has drawn the government's attention to fulfill the demands of the affected and local vendors of the Melamchi Water Supply Project. He drew this attention while speaking in the House of Representatives meeting on Thursday. He also informed that the Melamchi Water Supply Project Affected Victims Vendors Struggle Committee has announced a ban on the entry of vehicles and employees of the Melamchi Water Supply Project. He alerted the government about the possibility of problems in the operation of the project due to the movement affecting the work of the Melamchi Water Supply Project. He stated that although the government had made various agreements after the victims affected by the Melamchi flood and water supply project and local vendors stopped water diversion, these agreements have not yet been implemented. The flood victims' struggle committee has made the reconstruction of the affected area, road construction, and reconstruction of structures damaged by the flood as its main demands. Speaking in the House, Chief Whip Dulal said, 'The Melamchi Water Supply Project Affected Victims Vendors Struggle Committee has announced a movement today. And from today, it has been announced that no vehicles or employees of the project will be allowed to enter the project site.' He said this would create problems in the continuity of the project's operation. Drawing attention to past agreements, he added, 'The victims, the struggle committee, and the local vendors committee have previously stopped water diversion, and the government has made various agreements multiple times. Under this, the flood victims' struggle committee has made the reconstruction of the affected area and roads its main issue, while the local vendors have made the payment they should receive from the government their issue.' Demanding that the situation of stopping water diversion again should not arise, he said to the government, 'Let the multi-year contract for the road from Melamchi to Helambu be approved immediately. Regarding the road from Melamchi to Sipokoli, let the multi-year contract be expedited. And let the agreements made by the government with the victims in the past be implemented immediately.' Chief Whip Dulal has demanded that the process of multi-year contract for the construction of roads from Melamchi to Helambu and from Melamchi to Sipokoli be expedited immediately. He urged the government not to let the residents of the capital face a water shortage again by immediately implementing the agreements made by the government with the victims in the past.
