10 Maoist Rebels Sentenced to Death for 2013 Attack Killing 27

New Delhi. A special court in India has sentenced 10 Maoist rebels to death, who were found guilty in an attack in 2013 that killed 27 people, including members of the Congress party.

The accused were found guilty of several crimes including conspiracy against the state and inciting war before being given the death penalty, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) of India said. More than 12,000 people were killed in the nearly 6-decade-long Maoist rebellion that began in the 1960s, and this incident was described by a former prime minister as the biggest internal security threat India has faced.
