Two More Bangladesh Premier League Officials Charged with Corruption

Dhaka. The Integrity Unit of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has charged two more officials of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) with violating the ICC's anti-corruption code. This brings the number of people facing such charges since May this year to nine. According to the BCB, former owner of Chattogram Royals in the previous BPL edition, Mohammad Abdul Qayum Rashid, and team official of Durbar Rajshahi and Chattogram Royals, Amin Khan, have been charged under sections 2.1.1, 2.1.4, 2.4.6, and 2.4.7. All these sections relate to committing corruption in the game. The BCB said in a statement, 'These charges have been brought based on the investigation conducted by the Bangladesh Cricket Board Integrity Unit into alleged corrupt conduct related to the 11th and 12th editions of the Bangladesh Premier League T-20, failure to disclose information relating to corrupt conduct, failure to cooperate with an anti-corruption investigation, and obstructing or delaying an investigation.' Rashid and Amin, who have been charged, have been provisionally suspended for now. As part of the disciplinary process, they have been given 14 days from the date of receipt of the charge sheet to submit their response. Earlier this month, the Integrity Unit led by Alex Marshall had charged three people, including a BCB director, with similar offenses. In May last year, four people, including cricketer Amit Majumdar, were brought under the purview of action for corruption.
