Flash Flood Causes Major Damage to Nepal's Hydropower Sector

Kathmandu. On August 27, an unexpected and catastrophic flood caused by glacial lake outburst in the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river basins resulted in significant loss of life and property. The hydropower sector has been particularly hard hit.

The flood completely destroyed more than 13 government and private sector projects, including Trishuli 3A, Chilime, Rasuwagadhi, Old Trishuli, Devighat, and the Trishuli 3B hub substation, under the Nepal Electricity Authority and its subsidiary companies.
