Lawmakers Demand End to Resource Hoarding by Mining License Holders

Kathmandu. Lawmakers have demanded an end to the practice of holding onto natural resources by obtaining permits for the exploration and excavation of mines and minerals for years without working. Speaking at the meeting of the Industry, Commerce and Labour and Consumer Interest Committee on Friday, during the theoretical discussion on the 'Mines and Minerals Bill, 2083', lawmakers stated that mines should be regulated in a systematic, scientific, and beneficial manner for the local community.

Speaking at the meeting, CPN (UML) lawmaker Kshitij Thebe said that the situation of holding onto potential mining areas across the country for a long time in the name of licenses should end. He emphasized the need to create a clear policy for excavation by dividing minerals into categories such as construction materials, industrial minerals, metallic minerals, and precious stones.
