Former Malaysian Leader Najib Razak Allowed House Arrest After Paying $12 Million Fine

Malaysia. Officials said on Friday that former Malaysian leader Najib Razak, who was jailed in connection with the strategic development company 1MDB corruption scandal, has been allowed to serve his sentence under house arrest after paying a fine of 11.2 million dollars.

Sultan Ibrahim of Johor has given Najib a 'conditional pardon'. The lawyers of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's office said that after the pardon order, he has been allowed to 'spend the remaining sentence until August 23, 2028, under house arrest'. The lawyers said in a statement that 'this conditional pardon is given on the condition of payment of a fine of 50 million Malaysian Ringgit (12.03 million dollars)'.
