Nepal's Trade Deficit Rises 24.9% in First Month of FY

Kathmandu. In the first month of the current fiscal year, Nepal's merchandise trade deficit has increased by 24.9 percent to Rs 148.74 billion. In the same period last year, the trade deficit had increased by 2.5 percent.

In the review month, total merchandise exports increased by 61.7 percent to Rs 38.70 billion. Exports to India increased by 71.0 percent and to China by 287.8 percent, Nepal Rastra Bank has stated. Especially exports of soybean oil, palm oil, polyester yarn, jute goods and particle board have increased, while exports of Ayurvedic medicines, herbs, processed leather and Nepali paper have decreased.
