UN Report: Hundreds of Civilians, POWs Subjected to Sexual Violence, Torture Since Russia's Ukraine Invasion

Kathmandu. The United Nations has stated that hundreds of civilians and prisoners of war have been subjected to sexual violence and torture since Russia began its invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The UN Human Rights Office stated in a report released on Friday that Russian officials were involved in most of the documented cases.

According to the report, 1,004 cases of sexual violence have been documented from February 24, 2022, to the end of July this year. Russian officials have been held responsible for 89 percent of these cases. The report states that members of the Russian armed forces, prison service, and national security services were involved.
