Shared Purpose Generates People Power

The power of people springs from the unity of their purpose and action and ability to shape ecological, social, economic and political power for survival, freedom and wellbeing. If their unity dissipates into atomised individuals, they lose interest in fulfilling each other’s needs and alienate from their own social nature. Their shared ideas, needs, interests and common humanity bind them to exert collective power for public interests. Natural liberty may give them limitless power but their civil liberties are limited by the spirit of the constitution they have mutually agreed upon for an orderly life. Civic virtues of people, their ethics, autonomy and maturity have greater value for harnessing the power to influence policy, law and decision-making. People’s active participation in legislative power, planning, direction, administration, budgeting, monitoring and leadership can make democratic development functional. It creates a culture of accountability, sharing and caring.
