UK and Israeli Scientists Discover New 'Jama' Blood Group System

Britain. Scientists from Britain and Israel have discovered a new blood group system in humans. The International Society of Blood Transfusion has recognized it as the 49th blood group system of the human body, 'Jama'.

Scientists identified the new blood group during the study of rare antibodies found in the blood of an Israeli woman and her brother. Genetic changes related to the F11R gene and the JAM-A protein formed from it were identified in the research.
