Sunmaya Thing Exits Karate Competition at 20th Asian Games

Kathmandu. Karate competition under the 20th Asian Games has started from Sunday in Toyohashi, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. On the first day of the competition, Nepal's Sunmaya Thing was eliminated from the final 16 in the women's individual kata event. In the final 16 competition held at the Toyohashi Gymnasium, Sunmaya was defeated by South Korea's Cho Ha-eun with a straight score of 5-0. In kata, players present a demonstration of various offensive and defensive techniques and receive points based on their accuracy, power, speed, and presentation. With Sunmaya's defeat, Nepal's challenge in the women's individual kata has ended. The competition in this event was scheduled to start and the medal matches were to be completed on the same day. A total of 15 events in karate are being competed in the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. Kumite in 6 weight groups for men and 6 for women, along with men's and women's individual and team kata are included. Karate competitions are being held from September 20 to 23 at the Toyohashi Gymnasium. More than 11,000 athletes from 45 countries are competing in 43 sports in this edition of the Asian Games. The official opening ceremony of the competition was held on September 19 in Nagoya, Japan.
