Heavy Rains Disrupt Highway Traffic Across Nepal

Kathmandu. Due to continuous rainfall in various parts of the country, floods and landslides have disrupted traffic services on major highways. The Nepal Police, in an update released at 6 AM on Monday, provided information about the obstructions and operational status on various road sections. In Sankhuwasabha district of Koshi Province, a landslide occurred at Netar Bhir in Makalu Rural Municipality-4 on the morning of October 2nd at 10:30 AM, completely blocking the Koshi Highway. The road section remains closed. Similarly, various districts in Bagmati Province have also been affected by floods and landslides, impacting road travel. In Kavre district, special arrangements have been in effect since October 16th on the Khurkot-Nepalethok-Katunjebesi section of the BP Highway, considering potential floods. A decision has been made to close the road from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM, and allow the operation of cargo vehicles up to 10 tons from 4:00 AM to 6:00 PM, depending on the situation. All main highways in Rasuwa district have been completely blocked due to floods since the morning of October 0th at 10:30 AM. In Nuwakot, at Ghattekhola in Shivapuri Rural Municipality-8, traffic has been restricted during nighttime on the Tokha Chhahare road section since the night of October 1st at 10:00 PM due to the risk of potential floods and landslides. Likewise, on the Pasang Lhamu road section, at Simtar in Bidur Municipality-10, the road was completely blocked due to a flood on the morning of October 010th at 10:30 AM. On the PrithviLok Marg passing through Dhading district, traffic has been restored to one-way after removing landslides. Landslides that occurred at Jawadkhola in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-10 on August 16th and at Shitalbazar on August 26th have been cleared, and the road has been made one-way. The Department of Roads and police teams are continuously working to fully restore traffic on the blocked roads.
