Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan's Sister Arrested in Lahore

Islamabad. Pakistan's former Prime Minister Imran Khan's sister Alima Khan has been arrested. His Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party confirmed this arrest before the protest to be held in support of Imran Khan next week. According to PTI officials, Alima was taken into custody from the eastern city of Lahore on Sunday afternoon. The party has called it illegal detention while her son has demanded her immediate release. Alima has been accused of organizing Imran Khan's supporters through social media and public gatherings on the orders of the Lahore Deputy Commissioner. According to the order, she will be kept in custody for 30 days. Alima had been openly protesting her brother's arrest and was in constant contact with supporters and the media. Police officials have confirmed Alima's arrest. According to the order, she will be taken to Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore. Before the arrest, her family had said they had no information about her condition. Her son Shahrez Khan has demanded on social media X that the government should immediately make her condition public and ensure her safe return. Alima's arrest is being linked to the demonstration to be organized across the country on September 27, where protesters plan to march towards the capital Islamabad. The order states that she has incited the public, disturbed peace and security, and provoked people to chant objectionable slogans against the government. In view of the potential demonstration, containers have been placed on the roads of Islamabad to secure government buildings. Pakistan's Interior Minister has said that such demonstrations will harm the country and the government will take any step to stop it. Imran Khan has been in custody since 2023. He was sentenced to three years in jail on charges of not showing the money received from the sale of gifts received while in office. He faces more than 100 cases, ranging from leaking state secrets to selling government gifts, which he calls political revenge. Last year, former cricketer and politician Khan was sentenced to 14 years in jail in a land corruption case, which is the longest sentence he has received so far. His health has been deteriorating in jail, and last month he was taken to the hospital for a health check-up.
