MP Sagar Dhakal Expresses Frustration Over Parliamentary Committees' Inaction

Kathmandu. Member of Parliament Sagar Dhakal has expressed anger, stating that parliamentary committees are functioning in the old way. MP Dhakal said this while speaking at a meeting of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee. “In a few days, it will be 6 months since we became MPs, which is 10 percent of the 5-year term. What have we done even at this point? How many directives have parliamentary committees given to the government, Mr. Chairman, let’s make a decision,” Dhakal said, pointing to the committee chairman Ashok Kumar Chaudhary. He emphasized that suggestions and issues raised by the staff of the Nepal Agricultural Research Council (NARC) should not just be discussed in the committee but should be implemented. “The staff of NARC here have raised such good suggestions and issues, but the aspect of implementation is our responsibility. We must not fail in that,” he said. Discussions are ongoing in the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee regarding the problems and challenges identified through on-site monitoring of regional offices and research centers under NARC, and measures for strengthening the agricultural research system.
