40 Injured in Monkey Attacks in Nepalgunj

Banke. 40 people have been injured in monkey attacks in Nepalgunj. Civilians are getting injured in the process of chasing away monkeys. In the last one and a half months alone, 40 civilians injured in monkey attacks have come to Bheri Hospital in Nepalgunj for treatment, said Dr. Badri Chapagain, who is studying patients of snake and animal bites at Bheri Hospital. He said that the incident of people getting injured and coming to the hospital due to monkey bites in Nepalgunj is new. "The occurrence of patients coming to the hospital due to dog, cat, and snake bites is old," said Dr. Chapagain, "but it is surprising that monkeys are now entering homes and biting people." He advised people to stay safe due to the nuisance of monkeys in the city and to reach the hospital immediately for treatment if attacked. The number of cases of snake and animal bites has been increasing at Bheri Hospital recently. According to the data provided by Dr. Chapagain, who is studying patients of snake and animal bites at Bheri Hospital, there have been 1,360 cases of animal bites in the last 45 days. The most common are 865 cases of dog bites, 110 from cats, 40 from monkeys, and 21 patients injured from rat bites. Similarly, during this period, 118 snakebite patients came to Bheri Hospital for treatment, said Dr. Chapagain. During this period, four patients were treated for insect bites and 19 patients whose biting animal was unknown reached Bheri Hospital for treatment. Dr. Nabin Darnal, Chief Medical Superintendent of Bheri Hospital, said that while incidents of monkeys biting farmers in villages do occur, this is a new case in the market. He informed that patients injured by monkey bites are given anti-rabies vaccine considering them as wild animals, and arrangements have been made to provide services to patients as needed.
