WHO Chief Warns World Unprepared for Pandemics, Urges Action

Kathmandu. The World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has stated that the world is still not adequately prepared for pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response. He urged world leaders to translate pandemic commitments into action ahead of the high-level week of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.

In a message on social media platform X on Monday, he said that commitments to pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response need to be renewed. "The political declaration is clear—the world is inadequately prepared," he said. He also emphasized the need to complete the schedule for access to pathogens and sharing of benefits derived from them under the pandemic treaty.
