Kathmandu. In the 20th Asian Games currently underway in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, Nepal's Dan Bahadur Darlami has been eliminated from the first round in boxing. In the men's 70 kg weight category, final 32 competition held on Monday at Nishio Gymnasium, Dan Bahadur was defeated 5-0 by Iraq's Ali Qasim Hamdan Al-Sare. The Iraqi player dominated all three rounds, securing a clear victory over Dan Bahadur. With Dan Bahadur's defeat, Nepal's start in the Asiad boxing has been with a loss. The Asiad boxing also began on Monday with the 70 kg men's competition. In this edition, 190 athletes from 33 National Olympic Committees are competing in boxing. There are competitions in 6 men's weight categories – 55, 60, 70, 80, 90, and above 90 kg – and 5 women's weight categories. Nepal is participating with seven players in Asiad boxing, including Dan Bahadur. Although Dan Bahadur's competition has concluded, Chandrabahadur Thapa, Khagendra Rokkha Magar, Rabin Nepal, Ramisa Shrestha, Asmita Tamang, and Kusum Tamang are yet to compete in various weight categories. Chandrabahadur Thapa is the bronze medalist in the 54 kg category at last year's World Boxing Championship. The Asian Games boxing competition will be held at Nishio Gymnasium from September 21 to October 2. Preliminary round matches will continue until September 28, while the semifinals will be held on September 29 and 30, and the finals for all eleven weight categories will take place on October 2.
