Nepal's Tourism Economy

Nepal’s tourism story is inseparable from the Himalayas. They are our strongest international identity, our greatest tourism asset—and at the same time, a source of risks that Nepal can never completely eliminate. The recent Bhote Koshi–Trishuli disaster brings this contradiction sharply back into focus. Nepal received around 1.16 million international tourists in 2025, and arrivals in 2026 were showing encouraging growth before the August disaster. Meanwhile, Nepal’s Tourism Decade framework carries an ambition of attracting 3.5 million tourists by the end of the decade.
