Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall Expected Across Nepal

Kathmandu. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Meteorological Forecasting Division has urged for caution as there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in various parts of the country from Friday to Monday. The division has stated that the low-pressure area currently located around the central Bay of Bengal is becoming more powerful, and its impact is expected to be felt in Nepal as well. Meteorologist Min Kumar Aryal of the division informed that the main impact of this system will be on Ashwin 9, 10, and 11, with a greater impact expected in the western regions compared to the Bagmati Province. He stated that caution should be exercised as there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in most parts of Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, and extremely heavy rainfall in one or two places. He mentioned that the eastern parts of Lumbini (up to Nawalpur), the eastern parts of Karnali, and the southern hilly and terai regions of Sudurpaschim will also be affected. He added that moderate rainfall could also cause damage in Chitwan area of Bagmati Province and in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading, which have already been affected by floods and landslides. The division has stated that although the average date for the monsoon to withdraw is October 2, looking at the trend of recent years, it appears to be delayed by a few days.
