NC Ward Convention Dispute in Biratnagar Over Regional Representative Selection

Kathmandu. The selection of regional representatives from Ward No. 3 of Biratnagar Metropolitan City of Nepali Congress has become controversial. Dissatisfaction has arisen within the party, alleging that the number of open seats has been increased to protect top leaders, disregarding the representation of the Dalit community and inclusive representation as stipulated by the party's constitution.

A list has been published selecting 26 regional representatives from the open category in the ward convention, in which all 26, including Koshi Province MP and party central member, and former mayor of Biratnagar Metropolitan City, Bhim Parajuli, are from the Khas-Arya and non-Dalit communities. The dissatisfied faction alleges that 3 seats were mandatorily supposed to be from the Dalit community as per the constitution, but the Dalit seats were cut and added to the open category.
