The Government of Nepal is set to establish an Information Technology (IT) Service under the Federal Civil Service

The Cabinet on September 8, 2023, Friday approved the ‘Federal Civil Service Formation, and Operation Bill 2080’ (संघीय ‘निजामती सेवाको गठन, सञ्चालन र सेवाको शर्तसम्बन्धी विधेयक, २०८०’) . The bill proposes the inclusion of a new ‘Information Technology ‘ group (सूचना प्रविधि सेवा) within the civil service.

Currently, IT human resources in the government are filled from the miscellaneous services (नेपाल विविध सेवा). With the new ‘Information Technology ‘ group, IT professionals will be recruited directly into specialized IT positions rather than grouped under ‘miscellaneous (नेपाल विविध सेवा)’.
