Over 800 Missing in Nepal Floods, Energy Sector Faces Billions in Damages

Kathmandu. More than 800 people working in various hydropower projects are still missing due to the devastating floods in the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers. Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha, in a statement of public importance in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, publicly presented a preliminary estimate of Rs 390.623 billion required for the overall revival of the energy sector due to the disaster.

Addressing the parliament, Minister Shrestha informed that 47 employees of Nepal Electricity Authority are among those missing. According to him, 439 people are missing from the Upper Trishuli-1 Hydropower Project, and 39 bodies have been recovered from there so far.
