Government Proposes Stricter Penalties for Attacks on Healthcare Workers and Facilities

Kathmandu. The government has presented a new bill, toughening the scope of punishment to prevent attacks and violent incidents against healthcare workers and health institutions.

The new bill, prepared to amend the Health Workers and Health Institutions Security Act, 2066, proposes strict legal provisions where those committing serious offenses will face imprisonment from 2 years to 5 years and a fine from 200,000 rupees to 500,000 rupees. Previously, there was an option for either imprisonment or a fine, but now offenders will be compelled to pay both imprisonment and fine.
