Two Bodies Recovered from Manaslu Avalanche Tragedy

Gorkha. The bodies of two people who died in an avalanche on Manaslu have been taken to Kathmandu. The bodies were taken to Kathmandu on Wednesday morning via helicopter from Samagaun, Chumunubri-1, located at the foot of Manaslu, the Gorkha District Police Office informed. The deceased have been identified as Dhruvajyoti Guha, a German citizen of Indian origin, and his assistant Fursemba Sherpa from Makalu-2, Sankhuwasabha, who died in an avalanche at Camp III last Sunday night. Their bodies were brought to Samagaun on Tuesday, three days after the incident. Police Deputy Superintendent Rajkumar Shrestha informed that the bodies were taken to Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj on Wednesday morning. They had gone for the Manaslu expedition from Makalu Adventure Company Pvt. Ltd. This brings the death toll on Manaslu to four. Earlier, Singaporean climber Lauwee Seng, 50, had died at Camp II. Similarly, Nepali assistant Tashi Sherpa, 20, died at Base Camp. A total of 493 foreign climbers have taken permission for the Manaslu expedition this season, known as the Killer Mountain. Due to adverse weather conditions, no one has been able to successfully summit yet. Due to heavy snowfall and continuous rain, climbers are returning to Kathmandu one after another.
