CPN UML Continues with Old Leadership Amidst Party Reform Debate

Kathmandu. After nearly 6 months of intense debate on party restructuring, the CPN UML has finally agreed to move forward with its old leadership.

The UML, which was reduced to 25 seats out of 275 in the elections held last February, saw heated debates on party restructuring, leadership transfer, and generational transfer immediately after the elections. By the first week of October, the debate had not only become a subject of discussion but some top leaders who stood for party restructuring had also changed themselves in an unusual way. An example of this is UML Vice-Chairmen Bishnu Paudel and Shankar Pokharel. Paudel and Pokharel were the ones who lobbied among the cadres after the electoral defeat, saying that the party could no longer move forward under Chairman Oli's leadership.
