Supreme Court Faces Judicial Shortage Amidst Rising Case Load

Kathmandu. The workload of cases in the Supreme Court is increasing day by day. Despite the increasing workload of cases from across the country, the Supreme Court has not been able to get judges according to its sanctioned strength. Just last week, the Judicial Council prioritized the appointment of judges in the High Court, and the Supreme Court was not included.

A serious question is arising as to when the vacant posts of judges in the main body for dispensing justice will be filled. The constitution has set a sanctioned strength of 21 judges, including the Chief Justice, but currently, only 17 are working in the Supreme Court. Now, Judge Binod Sharma is also being added to the list of those retiring. As the number of judges in the Supreme Court continues to decrease and the pile of cases grows, the pace of justice delivery is being affected.
