BP Highway Blocked Due to Landslide After Heavy Rainfall

Kavrepalanchok. BP Highway has been obstructed due to a landslide caused by continuous rainfall. The road was obstructed after landslides occurred in Charasaybesi of Roshi Rural Municipality-7 and Gimdi of Roshi-8 along the BP Highway at 4:30 AM today, according to the District Police Office. Meanwhile, considering the projection of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the BP Highway section in Kavrepalanchok had been closed at night since Thursday. The District Administration Office has stated that it may also be closed during the day depending on the flood and landslide situation, but for now, vehicular movement is prohibited at night until Sunday. As per the decision of the office meeting, vehicular movement will be stopped from 5:00 PM to 5:00 AM in the Kavrepalanchok section of the BP Highway from October 8 to the morning of October 12, said Chief District Officer Gopal Kumar Adhikari. The District Police Office has stated that it will make necessary decisions if the situation of vehicles operating during the day also needs to be stopped after assessing the rainfall and flood and landslide situation. It has been decided to request the police units of the neighboring districts of Sindhuli and Bhaktapur to facilitate the implementation of the said decision. The meeting has decided to alert citizens in settlements at risk of riverbanks and landslides about the potential risks of floods and landslides, to continuously provide information related to risks, and to disseminate information through local media. The police have requested the general public to travel during the day only after understanding the condition of the highway.
