It’s high time Nepal removed the statute of limitation for rape cases. Here’re some options for reform

Last week, a woman posted 20 videos on TikTok , in which she confessed how the organiser of a beauty pageant she took part in drugged, raped and blackmailed her in 2014 when she was only 16. The video went viral on social media and sparked outrage. Since then, people have been demanding action to be taken against the perpetrator and demanding justice for the survivor by staging protests across Kathmandu.
Following the support she has received, the survivor tried to file a complaint. But, she could not because the statute of limitation for rape cases in Nepal is just one year, which meant she could only file a complaint within one year. In the case of minors, the statute of limitations for rape is one year after they turn 18.
