There are speeches we listen to. There are speeches we applaud. And then there are those that make us pause and ask what comes next.

For many Nepali, Right Honourable Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s address to the United Nations General Assembly on 24 September 2025 was one of those moments. Perhaps because it captured something difficult to put into words: the pride of belonging to a country small in size and global influence, yet carrying burdens that are anything but small.
