Myanmar Floods Cause Significant Damage and Potential Casualties

Kathmandu. It is suspected that there has been a large loss of life and property due to floods and landslides caused by continuous rainfall since Friday night in the southern Taningthari region of Myanmar. According to preliminary reports, 7 to 10 people may have died and 20 to 30 are missing.

Due to heavy rainfall, floods and landslides have occurred in various townships in the Taningthari region. Rescue workers have stated that some villages are accessible only on foot due to blocked roads. According to Myo Min, chairman of the voluntary organization Dabeie Jabuthiri Emergency Medical Service, rescue teams have transported hundreds of displaced people to temporary shelters set up in local monasteries.
