Serbia's President Resigns to Run for Prime Minister

Serbia. Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić resigned from the presidency on Sunday, preparing to run for prime minister in the upcoming snap parliamentary elections. He stated that he resigned to lead his right-wing Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) in the October 25 elections.

Vučić's second presidential term was set to end next May. The constitution prohibits him from running for a third term. The SNS, in power since 2012, is facing challenges in the upcoming elections amid student-led protests.
